Platform for a Fair and Sustainable Agriculture

Terra Madre Day event in Bucharest, organized by the Grupul de Initiativa Radu Anton Roman and Bucharest Valahia Gusturilor convivium.

December 10th, 2010

Following the launch of the European Commission communication on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, on November 18, a number of civil society organizations of Romania involved in rural development issues decided to join their efforts in a single voice. The advocacy platform named as Platform for a Fair and Sustainable Agriculture or PAES, wants to be a voice in order to support a policy drive towards rural development, small farmers, preservation of biodiversity, support for a food chain designed to make local markets easier to be reached by small farmers. On December 10, PAES will celebrate Terra Madre Day by meeting to discuss and adopt our strategy for the next months, thinking of food, community and future.

As part of the Terra Madre Balkans network, we will also present the Manifesto on Food, Biodiversity and Rural Cultural Heritage during our event, to raise awareness of the importance of preserving rural tangible and intangible heritages and cultural landscapes. The Manifesto was developed during the Terra Madre Balkans meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria in July 2010. The meeting united food communities from several countries across the Balkans, and the Manifesto was developed to articulate our shared vision and aims.
