The Reggio Emilia Earth Market, the third to be started in Emilia-Romagna, was inaugurated on Sunday May 6, 2012. It will be held on the first Sunday of every month (except for August) at the Loris Malaguzzi Centre.

The market is organized by the Slow Food Reggio Emilia Convivium in collaboration with the Loris Malaguzzi Centre (a space for research, innovation and experimentation around education and culture), Reggio Children (a mixed public-private company established in 1994 to manage the educational and cultural exchanges between Reggio Emilia's municipal early childhood institutions and educators and researchers from around the world) and Pause - Atelier of Tastes (a culinary project that draws on the experience in the kitchens of Reggio Emilia's infant centers and preschools).

The town of Reggio Emilia is home to a particularly large number of cooperative business, especially in the pig-farming, dairy, wine and produce sectors. Around 20 producers of wine, beer, grains, bread, pasta, fruit and vegetables, cheeses, jams and preserves, meat, charcuterie and vinegar are involved in the market, all from the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Parma.

Each market will feature two guest producers, generally from further away, and special events like tastings, ateliers and Taste Workshops.
