The San Miniato Mercatale is held in San Miniato Alto on the morning of every third Sunday. The stalls of more than twenty local producers offer fresh fruit and vegetables, animal produce, and small-scale artisan food products. Fresh raw milk is also available from the "Omega Agricola" cooperative in Sovicille (province of Siena).
The San Miniato market is organized by the Slow Food San Miniato convivium, the local authority of San Miniato (also a Slow City), and Slow Food Tuscany, with the involvement of Confederazione Italiana Agricoltori, Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, ARSIA and the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity.
The Mercatale is part of the project "Short Chain - A Regional Network for the Promotion of Agricultural Products in Tuscany", created by the Tuscany regional government in 2007. Its objectives include encouraging the consumption of local produce to reduce the environmental impact of transport and boost the consumption of seasonal products.
The management committee of the San Miniato Mercatale comprises: Ivana Strozzalupi (President and leader of the Slow Food San Miniato convivium); Sergio Falaschi (artisan representative); Francesco Lai, Alberto Bellesi, Federica Scardigli, Tiziana Menichetti, Ilaria Bianucci and Ivana Cupelli (producer representatives).
